In 2019, we photographed the beautiful wedding of Sarah and Alan. They were married at St.Patricks Church in Redfield, Bristol, with their reception at Court Farm Country Park at Banwell near Weston super Mare. Our wedding coverage started with a pre wedding portrait session, some weeks before the wedding day. The wedding day coverage started with the bride’s preparations at her home, followed by the arrivals at the Church, the wedding ceremony, followed by some portraits of the bride and groom, and confetti. At Court Farm we did some photos of venue, small family groups, some more portraits of the Sarah & Alan, followed by the speeches, to the first dance. We also provided a party booth for some fun photos with with their family and friends. With their kind permission, here are a few images from their wedding …….

During one of our local walks before lockdown, we met Stacey with her young Dachshund puppy called “Pig”. We did a socially distanced portrait session with Pig at a local park, where we created some lovely portraits with our mobile studio, on a sunny but cold December morning. Pig was a little nervous in front of the camera at first, but soon was over his nervousness and star of the show, and a few Xmas props were added for that Christmassy feel. We were also briefly joined by “Reg”, a white Cockapoo. Reg was great in front of the camera too!

Back in 2010 in happier times before Covid, I took this wedding photo at Bristol Harbour, using Redcliffe Bridge as the background. Redcliffe Bridge, built in 1942, has not been fully operational since 2015 and rarely opens these days, maybe once a year, so thought I would take some photos of a rare occasion. It was opened for the Apple cider boat, which is usually moored at Welsh Back near Bristol Bridge, to go for maintenance. Here are a few of my images, taken with strict social distancing, on my daily walk.

In 2016, I photographed the funeral of George "Kidd" Mahoney, who passed away at the age of 32. I was asked by the family to do this, who wanted a record of the funeral for George's 2 boys to remember him by. As a family friend, and knowing George for a number of years, it was the least I could do to help out, in some small way, at that sad & tragic time. My condolences go out to Cath, Keith, Grace and all the family.

On a warm August morning, we drove the short distance to the beautiful city of Bath, in Somerset, to photograph a romantic and unique occasion. James had arranged for a special early morning opening of the Roman Baths & Pump Room, for a surprise romantic proposal to his girlfriend Jen. And she said yes! We were there to capture that special moment, and to produce some location portraits of their very special day.

IN MEMORY OF ANTHONY ALAN SKUSE
One morning in October 2018, I received a call from an old friend of mine, Tony Skuse. I had known Tony since the 70’s when I drank in the Maypole in Hanham, from the terraces at Eastville, watching Bristol Rovers, and from Chasers night club in Kingswood. I had not seen or spoke to Tony for a few months since my last visit to the Maypole in Hanham, Bristol, and I knew he was ill with cancer, which I did not know was terminal. So it came as a complete shock to me when he told me he only had a week or two to live, that he was planning his own funeral, from his bed in Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

Bristol, the birth place of Banksy, with it’s colourful street art and graffiti. Also home to Brunel’s world famous Clifton Suspension Bridge and the SS Great Britain, the world’s first iron hulled ocean-going steam ship. Bristol has 2 world renowned Universities, and is rich in it’s cultural heritage, and the iconic Concorde was built here. But look a little further down the back streets, and you will see the usual run down inner city areas with derelict buildings, run down housings and urban neglect. I am a Bristol born and bred photographer, born in Easton, and I like to use those kind of local locations for my Urban Headshots around my home city of Bristol, many of which I know from having a good local knowledge. I like to use off camera flash to create some moody lighting, and back street locations with colourful graffiti. I am always on the lookout for interesting characters to use for these portraits, and one day hope to produce a book of my work.
